As a digital marketing agency that specializes in web design, we’ve heard many misconceptions about the world of web design. The examples below are myths that we frequently hear – and we’re here to debunk them:

1. A mobile site isn’t that important.

On the contrary. With more and more people browsing the web on mobile devices like tablets and smartphones, it’s very important your website is optimized for mobile. With a responsive web design, your website will look great on any device and you’ll be able to reach a wider audience. You’ll also make your visitors’ experiences much easier, since they won’t have to pinch and drag around your site to read it.

2. Animation is still popular.

While web design animation was once a popular things to incorporate in your website, it isn’t what appeals to people these days. Instead of “entertainment,” people are looking for information. They want to know things like how your business got started, what you offer, and how your product or service will make their life better. Animation can distract and frustrate, driving visitors away from your site. Instead, try another way to make an impression – like a great graphic or cool typeface.

3. Free websites are just as good as custom websites.

While a free website sounds like a great deal, you’ll most likely get what you pay for. Your website may have random advertisements on it, a domain name that has nothing to do with your business, bad picture quality, low search engine rankings, and more. All of this can make your business look unprofessional, untrustworthy, and drive traffic away. Instead, leave the beauty and functionality to professionals, like our digital marketing agency.

4. Lots of content is key.

Yes, content is the meat and potatoes of your website, but that doesn’t mean you need a ton of it. When it comes to content, it’s the quality of the content that matters – not the quantity. Your website’s visitors want to know (usually in as few words as possible) why your product or service is worth purchasing. Today’s web browsers are an “I want it now” group, and too much content could shy them away. Instead, make bold points that will stick with them.

5. There can never be too many images.

Like content, lots of images can be overwhelming to your website visitors, and too many images tend to look sloppy. They can also significantly slow down the load time of your pages, making for a bad user experience. If you’re going to use images, pick and choose which would have the most impact and which would complement your design best without cluttering it.

6. Optimization gives you immediate results.

Many people think that as soon as they optimize their website‘s content, description tags, meta tags, etc., they should see their website at the top of search engine results pages. It takes time for search engine spiders to crawl through your site and index it, so be patient – you’re not going to see results overnight. Keep tracking your website and, if you’ve optimized it correctly, you’ll start to see it move up in rankings.
