Digital Marketing Careers
SEO & AEO Specialist
You are hard working, smart, and looking to find a home at a well established boutique agency where the work you perform really matters. You are also a great team player, you want to keep learning, and you have a positive attitude. If “that’s not my job” is a phrase you consider acceptable, we are not the place for you.
This is a hands on role. You will build digital strategy, and you will do the work that makes that strategy real. We are not looking for someone who can speak fluently about SEO, AEO, and AI and then hand the execution to someone else. We want someone who can define the plan and ship it — in the CMS, in the code, in the content, in the measurement stack, and in front of the client.
Search is no longer just ten blue links. Buyers now ask Google, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Grok, and voice assistants for answers, and a growing share of those sessions never produce a click. Our job is to get our clients found, become the answer, and earn the citation. That means traditional SEO still matters, but it is no longer enough. You will treat Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) as one operating system. Rank where rankings still convert, structure content so answer engines can extract it, and build the entity and authority signals that make AI systems name the client by name.
You will also use AI every day as a force multiplier — research, first drafts, audits, reporting, testing, competitive teardown — without ever treating the model as the author of record. You own accuracy, brand voice, originality, and client outcomes. Prompting is a skill, judgment is the job.
You must be comfortable working directly with clients in an account role by email, video conference, and in person. You need to take complex search and AI visibility ideas and explain them in language a business owner can believe and act on. We’re looking for results-driven, organized, and someone willing to do whatever it takes to make our clients successful.
What you will actually do
Discovery and visibility
- Audit client sites for technical, content, conversion, and AI visibility gaps — crawlability, indexability, snippet eligibility, structured data, entity clarity, and whether answer engines can actually use the page.
- Map the questions buyers ask in classic search and in answer engines. Build prompt sets and query clusters, not just keyword lists.
- Baseline where the client already appears. Organic rankings, featured snippets / PAA, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, and citations or mentions in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Grok.
- Analyze competitors on both SERPs and answer engines. Track who they cite, who cites them, and which third-party sources AI trusts in the category.
Strategy and execution (you do the work)
- Build and run integrated SEO + AEO + GEO plans from start to finish. Technical fixes, on-site structure, content, off-site authority, local presence, and measurement.
- Write and edit answer-first content across industries. Clear question, direct 40–80 word answer, evidence, then depth. Pages that win clicks and get extracted into AI answers.
- Implement and maintain schema, FAQ / HowTo / LocalBusiness / Organization markup, and other machine-readable signals. Keep entity facts consistent across the site, Google Business Profile, directories, and knowledge sources.
- Own on-site technical work. HTML and template-level optimization, internal linking, crawl/index issues, Core Web Vitals awareness, and collaboration with development to ship fixes rather than write tickets and disappear.
- Manage local optimization. Location profiles, duplicate listings, NAP consistency, and local pack plus local answer visibility.
- Build off-site authority that answer engines actually use — earned mentions, reviews, comparisons, original data — instead of treating “backlinks” as the whole game.
- Give clients who edit their own sites clear guidelines so their changes do not undo rankings or AI extractability.
- Use AI tools to accelerate research, outlines, variants, audits, and reporting. You review, correct, and ship. You do not paste raw model output into a client site and call it strategy.
- Run tests (including multivariate / CRO tests where they matter) so recommendations are based on evidence, not folklore about the latest algorithm rumor.
Clients, risk, and reporting
- Work directly with clients as an account lead. Translate AI Overviews, citation rate, and zero-click behavior into business language. Leads, sales, pipeline, reputation.
- Prepare strategy and performance reports that cover classic SEO metrics and answer-engine visibility. Rankings and traffic where they still matter, plus mention/citation rate, share of answer, sentiment of how the brand is described, and what changed because of our work.
- Watch scope, timeline, and risk. Surface problems early and fix them.
- Stay current on Google ranking systems, AI Overview / AI Mode behavior, and how major answer engines select sources. Bring that back as changes in the work, not as conference recaps.
What you need to bring
- Proven hands-on experience in SEO and content, with real work in AEO / GEO / AI search visibility — or a traditional SEO track record plus clear evidence you have already made that shift.
- You can explain the difference between ranking a page and becoming the source an answer engine cites, and you have done both.
- Excellent spoken and written communication. You can present strategy to a non-marketer without hiding behind jargon.
- Working command of Google Analytics (GA4), Google Search Console, Google Ads (certification is a plus), Google Business Profile, and current SEO / AEO toolsets. Comfort adding AI visibility tracking (prompt panels, citation monitoring, brand mention audits across engines) to the stack.
- Daily, disciplined use of AI for marketing work — briefing models well, checking facts, protecting brand voice, and knowing when not to use them.
- Experience in WordPress and editing live sites. You are not waiting on a developer to change a title tag, schema block, or answer paragraph.
- Strong HTML literacy and comfort with on-page code-level optimization.
- Experience with testing tools and a bias toward measurement over opinion.
- Creative and competitive instinct. You look for the question nobody else answered cleanly, the original stat, the page structure AI can lift.
- Organization, time management, and the discipline to hit dates — including extra hours when a launch or a client problem requires it.
- A sense of humor. This work changes every quarter. People who cannot laugh and adapt will hate it.
