The age of the internet is ever-changing, and what was once successful for your company may not be so successful anymore. No matter what industry you’re in, it’s important to assess and refresh your digital marketing plan on a regular basis. Keeping things fresh is the key to reaching more customers and improving your bottom line.
Here, we have a few tips for how to refresh your marketing plan:
Study your competition.
When you first created your digital marketing plan, you probably took the time to find out who your competitors are and why they’re successful. If it’s time for a refresh, why not revisit that strategy? As the times change, so do marketing tactics, which means your competitors may be doing something different these days in order to succeed. Study those who are currently leading (and those who have recently joined) your industry to see what they’re doing right. Then, use that information to freshen your own plan.
Reevaluate your budget.
Your budget is what keeps your company running, so it never hurts to make sure you’re maximizing its potential. Take some time to survey it. Do you have the same amount of money to work with as you did several years ago? Are there new ways to reach your customers at a low cost? Are you putting enough money into the areas that need it? Budget management is an important part of marketing success and should be evaluated on a regular basis to maximize your ROI.
Don’t ignore feedback.
Today, more and more consumers are leaving product or service reviews, and more and more consumers are expecting companies to respond – especially if their experience wasn’t up to par. Do yourself a favor and don’t ignore feedback. If a customer was unsatisfied with your product or service and they take to the internet to tell people, people will listen. But if you address the feedback swiftly and politely, you’ll improve your reputation and can minimize the negative influence it may have on other potential customers. Pay attention to what clients say on review sites like Yelp, Google, and Trustpilot as well as your social media profiles.
We all know that times change, and so do trends; what was once popular when you began your digital marketing plan may not be so popular now. During your plan refresh, take some time to research the current trends. Then, try to incorporate them into your plan to broaden your exposure and reach more people. Just be careful – some trends are gone in a flash. Try to stick with the ones that have the potential to be around for a little while.
Update your website.
In today’s world, websites are more important than ever. If yours isn’t updated properly, you could be losing business. Make your website one of the first things on your to-do list. Check to make sure it loads quickly, looks good on all screen sizes (laptop, tablet, mobile, etc.), and has plenty of call-to-actions (that aren’t outdated). In addition, your website should have an SSL certificate and an “https” in the address. This gives your visitors a secure connection and improves your credibility. Determine what’s working.
Take a look at the time that’s passed since you last set a marketing plan in motion. What parts of your business have been the most successful? Maybe you’ve gained a good chunk of clients through social media. Maybe your latest holiday promotion brought an increase in sales. Or maybe your email marketing campaign has expanded your customer base. When you can determine what’s working for your company, you can put more focus on them during the next steps of your plan.
