Why You Should Ask Your Customers for a Review

digital marketing company

With so many review websites out there, there’s no shortage of places you can go to find consumer opinions about a business. But reviews aren’t just beneficial for the consumer – they’re also beneficial for the business itself, and that’s why it doesn’t hurt to ask your customers for a review. In fact, customers are more inclined to leave a review when asked; according to BrightLocal, 70% of consumers will leave a review if you take the time to ask them to.

At our digital marketing company, we know that reviews can be risky and you never know what a customer may write about your business, but no matter the review, it can be used in a positive way. Even if you receive a bad review, you can use the criticism to alter or fix something that may not be working right for your company. By making beneficial changes, you’ll encourage more positive reviews and an overall more efficient business.

Reviews can also help you show others that you’re attentive to your customers. Many review websites let businesses respond to their reviewers, so you can thank those who leave positive feedback and address those who leave negative feedback. By showing others you’re responsive, you project a positive image.

Nearly anyone who uses the internet will see online reviews when they do a local search and in BrightLocal’s review, they found that some businesses’ reviews are more read than others. Some findings include:

  • “The most commonly read reviews by consumers are Restaurant/Cafe reviews, with 60 percent of respondents having read reviews for businesses in this category.”
  • “Hotels/Bed & Breakfasts reviews came in second, with 40 percent of respondents seeking reviews for businesses in this category.”
  • “Also popular are Medical/Healthcare Professionals, Clothing Shops, Hair/Beauty Salons, Automotive Services and Grocery Stores.”

So take the time to ask your customers for their help in making your business better. Whether it’s through Google, Yelp, TripAdvisor, or another online review platform, you’ll promote interaction, popularity, and more.
